Choosing Calm Over Chaos
Choosing Calm Over Chaos
Devotion by Pastor Alexander Redd

As we grow older, our priorities often shift, and our faith in Christ becomes our guiding light. We begin to value peace over chaos, distance over disrespect, and seek out positive relationships that are good for our mental health, heart, and soul. This transition is not a sign of weakness but a sign of growth, maturity, and understanding.
Consider the story of a potter known for crafting beautiful pots from seemingly worthless lumps of clay. One day, a young apprentice asked him, "Master, why do you always choose the most marred clay to make your best pots?" With a knowing smile, the potter replied, "The clay that has been through the most has the highest potential to hold its form under extreme heat. Likewise, the more challenges we face in life, the stronger we become."
The Bible speaks of the wisdom that comes with age. Proverbs 16:32 says, "He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit, than he who captures a city." The scripture encourages us to choose calmness over chaos, to rule our spirit, and to be slow to anger.
As we grow older, we become more like the potter's clay, able to withstand the heat of life's furnace, holding our form amidst the chaos. We choose distance over disrespect, understanding that being alone is better than being in bad company. We remember the words of Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:33, "Do not be misled: 'Bad company corrupts good character.'"
Our faith in Christ becomes our ultimate priority, serving as a guiding light in our pursuit of peace and tranquility. We strive to embody Christ's teachings, love our neighbors as ourselves, show kindness and respect to all we meet, and maintain our calm, even in the face of adversity.
The Bible speaks in Philippians 4:7, "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." We should pursue this peace, surpassing human understanding, a peace that only faith in Christ can provide.
Let us cherish the sanctity of serenity in our lives. We need moments of comfort and reflection to recharge our spirits and find inner peace. Whether through meditation, prayer, or simply enjoying the beauty of nature, let us make room for serenity in our lives.
Moreover, let us be mindful of the company we keep. Surrounding ourselves with positive influences and uplifting relationships is essential for our well-being. We should choose friends and companions who bring out the best in us, encouraging and supporting our growth.
Most importantly, let us maintain our faith in Christ. He is the origin of genuine peace and the foundation of our spirits. During periods of uncertainty and disturbance, we can take comfort in His assurances and direction. We should rely on His blueprint for our lives and depend on Him for fortitude and consolation.
Embodying these values can positively impact others and create a more peaceful and harmonious society. Be a beacon of calm and respect in a chaotic and divisive world, and spread peace wherever we go. May the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
