"For we walk by faith, not by sight."
2 Corinthians 5: 7
The verse "We walk by faith, not by sight" in 2 Corinthians 5:7 encourages believers to trust God even when they cannot see the way ahead. This verse has a deep meaning and context relevant to our daily life of faith in Christ. What is the purpose of this verse, its context, and how it practically applies to our everyday life of faith in Christ?
We should rely on our faith in God rather than our physical senses or what we see. We should trust in God's promises and follow His guidance even when we cannot see the outcome. Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). Therefore, we must have faith in God's promises and trust that His plan for our lives is perfect.
Today's key text is part of a larger passage in 2 Corinthians 5 about the hope of eternal life. Paul, the author of this letter, was writing to the Corinthians to encourage them to live by faith in Christ, not by the things of this world. He reminded them that their true home was in heaven, and they should live their lives with that in mind. Paul also urged them to spread the gospel and be ambassadors of Christ, sharing His message of love and salvation with others.
How do we live a life of faith in Christ every day, not only by what we see? Well, there are many ways we can do so. For example, when facing challenges or difficult situations, we should trust in God's promises and believe He will see us through. We should not be discouraged by what we see around us, but instead, we should look to God for guidance and strength. The Bible is full of examples of people who had faith in God even when they faced seemingly impossible situations. For instance, when David faced Goliath, he trusted God's strength and defeated the giant (1 Samuel 17:45-47).
Moreover, we must also walk in faith when we do not know what the future holds. We should trust that God has a plan for our lives and that His goal is perfect. We should seek His guidance and follow His will, even if it means taking a different path than we had planned. For example, when Jesus called His disciples, they left everything and followed Him without knowing where He would lead them (Matthew 4:19-20).
"We walk by faith, not by sight" in 2 Corinthians 5:7 is an inspirational devotion that reminds us to trust in God's promises and guidance even when we cannot see the way ahead. This verse has a deep meaning and context relevant to our daily life of faith in Christ. We must have faith in God's plan, trust in His promises, and follow His guidance. By walking in faith, we will experience the peace and joy that only God can give.
