"Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit, you will recognize them."
(Matthew 7:15-16).

Jesus warned us to be careful of false prophets, who may seem innocent but can actually be harmful. Paying attention to their actions and the outcomes they produce is important. Actions are more telling than words. Misusing the name of Christ Jesus for personal gain is offensive to God. It goes against His teachings and values and disrespects Him and His followers. We must always act with integrity and compassion towards others, treating His name with respect and honor.

Throughout history, many individuals have misused the name of Christ for personal gain, regardless of their background or status. This unfortunate occurrence is not uncommon. Here are a few examples.

1. Certain televangelists use their platform to request donations from their followers, promising that God will bless them in return. Unfortunately, some televangelists live extravagant lifestyles, owning expensive homes, cars, and private jets, all funded by their followers' donations.

2. Some religious leaders abuse their power by manipulating and controlling their followers for their own benefit. They may do this by insisting on complete obedience or by promoting their own interpretations of the Bible as the only correct ones.

3. Some politicians use the name of Christ to gain favor with religious voters, even though they do not truly follow the values of the Christian faith. They may use religion as a political strategy to gain power or push policies that go against the teachings of Jesus Christ.

4. Individuals who use the name of Christ to justify acts of violence or hatred towards others. This can include hate groups who claim to be acting in the name of Christ or individuals who use religion as an excuse for discriminatory or harmful behavior.

Christ taught us to be aware of those who use his name for personal gain. He identified groups like the Pharisees and Sadducees as spreading false teachings for their own purposes. Using Christ's name in this way goes against the principles of Christianity and the example set by Christ himself. However, don't be disheartened and give up on your faith because of this.

In today's society, it is crucial to keep educating ourselves on the genuine nature of Christ, even when we come across different examples. To differentiate between reliable and unreliable gospel teachers, we can evaluate the results they produce ("fruit") as described in Matthew 7:16 and assess their "spirit" as highlighted in 1 John 1: 4-6.

According to Jesus, a healthy tree bears good fruit; a true prophet will produce teachings and deeds that align with Christian beliefs. In contrast, false prophets will exhibit bad fruit, which may include damaging teachings, manipulative behavior, or other indications of dishonesty.

Jesus was a big believer in using your brain and really thinking things through, especially when it came to matters of faith. He told his followers to be innovative and judge people based on their actions, not just words. He also warned them to watch out for people who say they're down with him but don't actually live by his values.
