How Well Do You Spend God’s Gift of Time?

How Well Do You Spend God’s Gift of Time?

"Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is." (Ephesians 5:15-17)

When I first stepped onto American soil more than twenty-five years ago, my understanding of time took on a whole new depth. You know that saying, "Time waits for no man?" It really hits home for me, highlighting the undeniable connection between time and life.

Whenever someone visits my home, they can't help but notice the presence of clocks and calendars in every room. And my response is always the same - time gives my daily pursuits a sense of purpose and direction.

We often complain about not having enough time to accomplish everything we want. But today's devotional reading serves as a gentle reminder - time is a divine gift from God. He has generously given us enough time to live and fulfill His purposes. Since time can't be regained or reversed, we should seize every opportunity the Lord presents us. The wise words of the Apostle Paul resonate with us:
"Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is." (Ephesians 5:15-17)

The real question is whether we use our time solely to fulfill our desires or to accomplish God's will. Time is not just a tool for our daily routines; it's the key to unlocking eternal treasures by aligning our lives with God's plan. Today's devotion encourages us to "walk, not as those lost but as those enlightened." This "walk" encompasses every aspect of our lives. To walk in this way is to live with the awareness that we are children of God.

Why should we strive to be enlightened and understand God's will? We face so many challenges, and time slips away so quickly. We might choose to fill our days with activities that only bring temporary satisfaction. But the pursuit of enlightenment calls us to make the most of our time and opportunities, to live lives marked by acts of kindness and mercy, and to inspire others.

The most meaningful thing we can do is to seek God's will in our daily lives and wholeheartedly commit to it. That's how we draw closer to Him. Sometimes, we can get caught up in our ideas, thinking we're acting in line with Christianity but unknowingly drifting away from God's will.

So here's the bottom line: true wisdom lies in discerning God's will for our lives and fully dedicating ourselves to it. This earthly life is like a vapor that appears for a little while and then disappears, while eternal life lasts forever.

It would be foolish to entrust our existence to something as fleeting as a vapor when we can reap everlasting rewards by following God's plan for our journey on this earth. Today's devotion allows us to make this choice with eternity in mind.
