"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful" (John 14:27).
What would you say if someone asked you what you need to soothe your troubled heart? The answer is usually peace. We all desire a peaceful life, mainly because our world is often noisy and unpredictable. Christ Jesus promises to give his followers peace, which is different from what the world offers.
The peace that Jesus gives is unlike any other type of peace. It is a peace surpassing all human understanding and not dependent on external circumstances (Philippians 4:7). The peace that the world provides is often fleeting and based on temporary pleasures or accomplishments. While the world's peace may come and go, Jesus' peace remains constant and unwavering. Jesus' peace is eternal and provides a sense of calm and security that cannot be shaken.
However, having the peace that Christ gives does not mean that conflict and anxiety will disappear completely. We should expect to encounter some level of competition in our lives. Relying on quick fixes like drugs and temporary relationships will not provide lasting peace. Understanding the source of permanent peace in your life requires knowing how to overcome conflict and other challenges that come your way.
Christ's peace is described as something that "binds together." In biblical Greek, "peace" signifies a person's inner experience of wholeness or completeness. This kind of peace brings stability to a person's life in Christ, regardless of external circumstances. To experience this enduring peace, we must build a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ. Through this relationship, we can experience the same harmony and unity that Christ and the Father share.
Although unexpected challenges will arise in our fallen world, we can still have Christ's peace. We must focus on him and trust that he will guide us through every storm. As we learn from these experiences, we can strengthen our faith journey. Remember, Jesus' peace is not for sale but a free gift available to all adopted into God's family.
